About Me

Teaching is a second career for me. I started and managed a highly successful home painting business right after receiving my bachelor's degree in 1996. I wanted to create more positive change in the world, so I went back to school to get a master's degree and certification to teach elementary education. Over the course of the past 14 years I've taught students with IEPs, 504s, alternative primary languages, gifted identifications, and more. I began and ran a schoolwide newspaper club for several years before switching to an after school chess club. Additionally, because of my creative and extensive use of technology in the classroom, I was chosen to serve on a technology committee that worked with the school board to get devices into every student's hands. Public education has proved to be exactly what I wanted, and I love giving to my community.

The Parkland School District holds an extra special place in my heart because of the help it provided for my daughter Scarlet. A 7th grader at Springhouse Middle School, Scarlet seems just like any other kid. She runs cross country and plays the cello in orchestra. But, Scarlet was born deaf. When she turned one, Scarlet received cochlear implants that allow her to hear. Receiving auditory information is not the only thing necessary to communicate, however. It was through Parkland School District's early intervention programs and speech classes that Scarlet was able to be completely mainstreamed.

I look forward to helping other families within Parkland learn about the services that our awesome school district provides. And, I'm excited to support the fantastic educators and administrators who make it happen.
